The Water Challenge

water challenge, carbon footprint

What is the Water Challenge? It’s a challenge to turn off the running water from the faucet when you’re not using it. Here are some great examples:
Doing dishes - Instead of having the water run while you’re doing dishes, put a bowl in the sink under the faucet at the beginning of the day- and every time you turn it on, it will fill up. THEN, when you need to rinse anything off, use the water from the bowl instead of turning on the faucet. The average flow rate of a kitchen faucet is 2.2 gallons per minute. Time how long you usually have the water flowing at the kitchen sink- and multiply that by 2.2 and you will see how much water you can save from being wasted every day! 😊
We all love our showers, but we send 1.5-2.2 gallons of water down the drain for every minute we’re in the shower. Try cutting down your shower time by 20% every day. Another great hack is to put a bucket in the shower to catch the water in between rinsing- then use that water to water plants.
How many of you keep the water running while you brush your teeth? Turn it on only at the end to rinse and you will save 2-3 gallons of water every brushing!

These are 3 great water saving techniques. Try them today and start saving one of our most valuable resources 💦🌏
